Hi, I’m Joshua Weir.

I am one of the counsellors and the founder of The Lantern Initiative.

I have been practicing as a qualified counsellor since early 2022, working across a range of school settings as well as in private practice. Through this, I’ve supported people of various ages and stages of life.

I genuinely love counselling and believe that most people would benefit from engaging in it at some point in their lives.

Over time, I’ve come to see that counselling is just one part of a much larger picture. It is a valuable tool—but not the only one.

I believe that both small, consistent changes and larger, intentional shifts can significantly improve our overall quality of life.

That belief is at the core of why The Lantern Initiative was created.

My Approach

My approach is built on two connected parts: understanding your story, and helping you move forward.

In the counselling space, I draw from Person-Centred and Narrative Therapy. That means slowing things down enough to really hear your story—what you’ve been through, the patterns that have formed, and the meaning you’ve made along the way. Often, people haven’t had the chance to fully process this, or to see their story from a different angle.

But insight alone isn’t the end goal.

The second part of my approach is about practical change. I place a strong focus on helping people take what they’ve learned and apply it in real life—through small shifts, helpful habits, and intentional choices that build over time.

The idea behind The Lantern Initiative is simple: you don’t need everything figured out to move forward. You just need enough light to take the next step.

My role is to walk alongside you—helping you make sense of where you’ve been, while also equipping you with the tools to move toward where you want to go.
